Our construction contractor, United Infrastructure (UI), has been granted a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWCC) to temporarily close Chorlton Lane, Croughton. This is to allow UI to safely install the Main Onshore Pipeline (the Pipeline) across Chorlton Lane using an open-cut trench technique.
As a result, Chorlton Lane will be closed for approximately five days, starting the week commencing 27 July 2026. Once the Pipeline has been installed and the works are complete, Chorlton Lane will re-open and operate as normal from Saturday, 1 August 2026 (subject to progress).
Further updates regarding Chorlton Lane will be uploaded to the Latest News section on the HyNet Hub should there be any changes to the dates outlined above.
An open-cut trench technique involves digging soil to form a trench, lowering the pipe into the trench, and backfilling it with the excavated soil. The depth of the trench will vary depending on technical factors such as ground conditions and topography. The minimum depth of the trench to the top of the pipe will be 1.2m.
Open-cut trench road crossings require the temporary closure of roads and implementation of diversion routes, as the road must be excavated to allow the Pipeline to be safely installed across it.
The proposed diversion route for Chorlton Lane has been agreed with CWCC and is shown in the map below.
